History:
Canada started off as a quiet isolated landmass in the New World, home to a slew of mostly-unbothered Aboriginal populations. Canada himself didn't quite come about until the arrival of the French and the British, France colonizing Canada into what was then called Nouvelle-France. Nouvelle-France(or, New France), was mostly raised to be independent, much like his brother to the south of him. Aside from the fur trading industry and the older country hoarding raw materials from him, Canada was mostly independent. He instilled a government that still answered to France, and was greatly left alone in peace to grow, slowly but surely.

The French and Indian Wars happened around the late 1600s, and France lost Canada(trading him away for Guadeloupe, whom he believed would be more valuable). England added Canada to his ever-growing list of colonies. If he had received much attention before, he certainly didn't receive much attention now, having about the same uses to England as he had before to France. One of Canada's first interactions with his brother was having sympathy for the Revolution…at least, until America tried to annex him during the revolution - this was halted immediately. Canada showed he at least had the might to kick America out. This happened a few times, again during the War of 1812, but each time, Canada was never successfully invaded and continued to keep his lands. Canada gained a slight mistrust of America during these times, unsure of the intentions towards the British presence in North America.

He remained under British rule for quite sometime, his lands and areas changing around him quite a bit, until he finally became the Dominion of Canada - a self-governing colony under the British Empire, forming the groundwork which would soon become modern-day Canada. During the World Wars, Canada participated and fought for Britain, making a heavy impact with the Canadian Corps in World War I and becoming highly feared by the Germans. He fronted many of the Allied attacks during what was known as Canada's 100 Days, which for the first time proved to Arthur and many of the other colonies that Matthew had his own command in line. Eventually, the Statute of Westminster of 1931, as an act of Parliament in the United Kingdom, granted Canada nearly complete legislative independence from England.

Even though he'd managed several victories, Canada's economy was hit hard by the interwar Great Depression. He adapted to the hard times, but unfortunately wasn't able to fully recover until the Second World War began. Nearly a week after England declared war on Germany, Canada followed suit and proved his strength through a number of invasions, pushing his military into becoming a significant military power. Although he was very successful, his actions were greatly undermined, and few paid any notice to him in comparison to Britain, America, or Russia.

During the Cold War, Canada aligned with America, and was often caught between the tensions between both Russia and his brother. He goes through a lot during this time, having to mediate between the Quebecois Nationalist and the rest of his citizens. Riots go off in 1970 during the October Crisis, and Matthew enforces a bilingual nation to allow for some compromise between the two. In 1976, Canada became an official member of the G7 and he feels as though he finally can come into his own as a nation. Only a few years later, the Canada Act was passed through the British Parliament as well as the Canadian Parliament, and Canada was able to have his own constitution in his own country, thus becoming the Canada he is today.

He is, however, still regarded by most of the world as eternally invisible, overshadowed by his louder and obnoxious neighbor below.

Personality:
Perhaps Canada's biggest issue, and the one that tends to cause friction between him and other nations is his invisibility. It's not that he becomes invisible on purpose, or that he even is invisible in any literate manner of speaking. He's simply just…forgettable. He has a forgettable presence, one which leads to an awful lot of people forgetting he exists or forgetting his name. France seems to acknowledge him, perhaps mostly due to the other Nation's pride at seeing himself in him, but even England has difficulty remembering who he is most of the time. When he's not invisible, he's mistaken for his dear brother to the south of him, which…causes quite a bit more problems than you'd think. He takes his brother's punches with stride though, often with a friendly reminder of who he is.

Canada is the sort of person who can stop in the middle of cleaning house, and be suddenly distracted by his polar bear's eyelashes for an entire weekend. It's not necessarily that he has no attention span - he just derails from things easily, and lives a very chill lifestyle when he can manage it. He likes to take things slower, preferring a nice, relaxed atmosphere as opposed to an intense, crazed, focused lifestyle. He's often overwhelmed by America's nature, but generally doesn't say anything.

Most of the time, Canada avoids conflicts. He's more inclined to be neutral - the country tends to pride itself on having a relatively friendly relationship with most nations, and his people are well-known to be friendly and polite nearly to a fault. However - his favorite sport is probably one of the most violent, competitive ones out there, and he's all too proud of it. He's also incredibly passive-aggressive at his worst. Despite the fact that he's difficult to anger, Canada seems to hold onto grudges and can let them out in a precise, albeit long-winded list of exactly what is wrong with you, having made his own brother cry after three hours of berating him with a list of faults.

Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:
Depending on the situation, it's both a weakness and a strength - Canada is just not…very well noticed. In fact, you might say he's practically invisible. This means that he has a marvelous tendency to fall under most people's radars, and can be underestimated quite a bit as a strong ally and powerful adversary. However, it's also quite the weakness - he has been used as a chair, and even his own family barely remembers his name and who he is. That being said, he, like many other nations is incredibly strong and resilient, nearly immortal. I can imagine he'd be made mortal for this game.

Inventory:
Kumajirou, a small white polar bear who is Canada's constant companion.
A jar of maple syrup.
And an axe.

Appearance: He's similar enough to his brother to sometimes be mistaken, but with a few minute changes here and there. Although fan art occasionally depicts him to be small, he's around the same size and shape as Alfred - however, he mostly wears baggier clothing. Canada has sort of a hockey player's build, around 5'11", and has chin length blonde, wavy hair, and blue eyes.

Age: In appearance, 19, though he is about 478 years old.

AU Clarification: None needed.

Log Sample:
Occasionally when he couldn't sleep, Canada had to get away from the cities. He had to get away from his beloved Toronto, his Montreal, his Ottawa, and escape further North, where the air was chillier, where his breath escaped in soft white clouds that dissipated into the night sky. He had to be around trees and frozen lakes and look up at the sky, exploding with color, soft green hues and pinks gently fading in and out with the thousands of stars to keep him company.

He had to cease, for a moment, being a country. And just exist, breathing out and breathing in that arctic air, inhaling, exhaling slowly. He could still feel everything, still feel those bustling cities, the noise of tourists and progress and the sound of traffic in his streets. He could feel his citizens, tired and mostly asleep. But for a moment, he pushed that back, lifted his nose to the sky, and closed his eyes.

Matthew felt more relaxed than ever, here, feeling the night breezes over his face, the cold shivering in his bones. There were no meetings to worry about any time soon. He couldn't hear Alfred's cities from here, couldn't see the bright, bright lights that kept the stars at bay. Everything was calm, relaxed, and he could look up and see the millions of stars that dotted the night sky. He could trace out constellations for hours, talking aloud to himself, fully well knowing no one was there to hear him. He sort of enjoyed that solitude, knowing no one in their right mind would come to bother him.

Even if they did, it would be unlikely that they would see him. Forgettable as he was, a gentle reminder had to remind most other nations of who he was in the world, where he was. It was frustrating time and again, more so when they mistook him for America than it was when they forgot his name all together. He took the time to remind them, again and again, after so many years.

But here, amidst the trees, amidst the stars, he could disappear from the world for a moment, and he did not mind one bit. He didn't mind that the trees never whispered his name.
Comms Sample:
[ Have a slightly disheveled young man glancing into the camera, somewhat unfocused for a minute until he manages to keep it still. He puts it up on a surface, finally, and sits back a little. He still has on the orange jumpsuit -- it doesn't really bother him too much. In fact, he sort of thinks it's comfortable. ]

So…um. I'm not really too sure where this is? [ He's soft-spoken, that's for sure, and glances around as if someone's going to pop up with all the answers. ]

I mean, it's just - I'd really like to know, if someone would tell me, please….

[ And now Canada gets in closer, just a bit. ]

Excuse me?

...Anyone there?
